Swiss Life Arena

Fire protection and video surveillance for Swiss Life Arena

The new Swiss Life Arena was officially opened in autumn 2022. As a multi-functional facility and home of ice hockey club ZSC Lions, the hall is intended to offer national and international sporting highlights to a wide audience not far from the centre of Zurich. The multi-purpose arena can accommodate 12,000 spectators and relies on security solutions from Securiton for fire protection and video surveillance.

The new Swiss Life Arena in Zurich-Altstetten promises fast moves, physical duels and lots of tension on the ice. This is the new home of the ice hockey club ZSC Lions. After many years of planning and three-and-a-half years of construction, the National League club’s first game in the new arena took place on 18 October 2022. With a 2-1 victory over Fribourg-Gottéron, the premiere was a complete success.

Versatile use

First and foremost, the Swiss Life Arena is the training centre and home arena for ZSC Lions and the popular ZSC junior team. However, the multi-functional arena also hosts other sporting events, corporate events and sponsor events. For example, the hall hosted the Men’s World Floorball Championships in November 2022, and is also one of the venues for the Men’s Ice Hockey World Championships in 2026. The Swiss Life Arena already impresses from the outside, with the hall covered in an envelope made of in-situ concrete. Behind it is the “witch’s cauldron” – the large hall with steep stands that offer an unobstructed view of the playing area from all 12,000 seats. With the largest LED video cube installed in an ice hockey stadium (12 x 12 x 8 m), this hall provides the ultimate in sporting experiences. A training hall, a huge weights and gymnastics room and sprint tracks complete the interior.

Security Securiton-style

When it came to the fire alarm system, the operators of the Swiss Life Arena played it safe. Already proven in thousands of installations, the SecuriFire fire alarm system from Securiton also ensures maximum fire protection here too. 2,400 SecuriStar MCD 573X combined multiple sensor detectors detect even the smallest amounts of smoke or heat from fire and transmit this information to the SecuriFire 3000 fire alarm control panel. Developed for large buildings, the fire alarm system is easy to operate and enables lightning-fast detection of incipient fires. Seven SecuriBeam ILIA linear smoke detectors are also used in the large arena. Securiton AG was tasked with installing a high-quality video surveillance system so that the security personnel can keep track of everything across the expansive multi-functional hall at all times. The system consists of a Milestone XProtect Expert video management system, which is ideal for large installations requiring uninterrupted video recording. 170 cameras ensure the best possible data: Panomera® multi-focal cameras from Dallmeier Electronic are specially designed for use in stadiums, while the additional dome and PTZ/speed-dome cameras deliver moving images of the highest quality.

Employees from sister company Securitas AG provide transport services around the Swiss Life Arena at major events and ensure secure access to the hall beforehand.
