Aargauische Kantonalbank (AKB), with head offices in Aarau and 30 other locations in the region, has implemented a centrally managed video surveillance system in cooperation with Securiton.
A Better View of Things for Aargauische Kantonalbank
A pilot project first tested the suitability of the solution on site, since bank security obviously requires attention to quite specific details. Last year Aargauische Kantonalbank was scanning the market for a centrally managed solution for modern video surveillance. Up until then, each bank location had been equipped with its own system, which in the long run proved to be not only inefficient but costly as well. The new solution had to meet the requirements of IT security while guaranteeing flexibility in upgrading and expanding the system.
Partner cooperation
Securiton accepted the challenge and designed a concept in collaboration with its partner SeeTec that met AKB’s needs and specifications. In April 2006 a pilot installation was put into place at the Lenzburg and Birr-Lupfig branch offices. At the same time the new management server was commissioned at the Aarau head office. A first step in the pilot phase was that the IT specialists at AKB had to evaluate the hardware platform. This was important since the AKB IT specialists were solely responsible for sourcing the hardware and providing the operating systems. Monitoring and providing support for all computers in the security installation would also be their responsibility once the overall system was handed over to them.
At an early stage of the pilot phase the decision makers at AKB were already convinced of the success of the solution. The second phase of the system expansion is therefore now in progress and will be completed by the end of April 2007.
Good eyes mean good security
Securiton’s task during installation of the video surveillance system consisted of setting up the various components and integrating the SeeTec software. The system presently comprises 63 cameras for the office branches implemented so far and the bank’s head offices. The cameras are deployed at the counters as well as in the 24-hour service areas (ATMs).
The advantage of the system is that new IP cameras (Internet Protocol cameras) and existing cameras were able to be integrated into the overall system as a function of requirements and building structures. A further advantage is the clearly structured, user-friendly SeeTec GUI. The remaining branches will be outfitted with the same video surveillance system by the end of April 2007.
