Prison "Grosshof" Kriens
The Grosshof Detention Centre in Kriens has modernised its security system. Management now relies on IP surveillance and security management systems from Securiton. A high-tech surveillance system based on networking has been installed in cooperation with SeeTec, a partner.
Detention centre relies on Securiton
The Grosshof prison and remand centre opened 10 years ago in Kriens and is considered to be one of the most advanced and secure institutions of its kind in Switzerland. In addition to cells for up to 87 inmates, the facility provides a workshop, visitor rooms, a library, and a fitness room. The staff of 52 work as warders, re-socialisation officers and administrators. Staff guarantee security by undertaking checks on inmates arriving and leaving, checking visitors, inspecting personal items brought in, including work and catering materials, cell checks and the operation of security systems for fire detection, intrusion and escape, and video surveillance.
Wide-ranging modernisation
Following modernisation of the prison facilities at the end of 2007, the security and communication centre was also upgraded, the focus being on the video surveillance system. The decision makers favoured Securiton and SeeTec products as the planners had previously stipulated the IP-based video management software from SeeTec as a must for the security system. The many years of successful cooperation with SeeTec was a contributing factor in Securiton being awarded the project contract. In order to monitor indoor and outdoor areas – hallways, rooms, access roads, fences and entrances – 32 new IP cameras were installed. The 42 analogue cameras that were already in use were integrated into the network by means of a video server. Connection to the SecuriLink UMS universal security management system was implemented via an OPC interface. This ensures optimal interaction of the SecuriLink UMS with the SeeTec video management software.
Satisfied client
The Grosshof prison is convinced that the new video system is the optimal solution for the future. Camera images can be viewed from two independent workstations, each equipped with four monitors. Operation is easier than before and picture viewing is effortless. The user controls the graphical icons with a mouse and can switch quickly between the different security and communication applications. A major advantage of the new system is the upgrading options which are going to be implemented step-by-step in the near future. New IP cameras with enhanced megapixel technology will gradually replace the analogue cameras to ensure even greater picture resolution.
