Casino Zurich

A vigilant eye in the casino

1 November 2012 marked the grand opening of Switzerland’s largest and most state-of-the-art casino in Zurich. Up to 1,600 guests are expected daily at the casino in the heart of the city centre, which features 400 gaming machines and 26 tables, a private club, three bars and a lounge with event stage.

In order to keep a close eye on gaming operations and guests at all times, Securiton was commissioned with the installation of a high-quality video surveillance system.
If people from Zurich fancied a night at the tables, then their only option used to be a half-hour drive to the casinos in Baden or Pfäffikon (SZ). This all changed on 1 November 2012 with the opening of the largest casino in Switzerland in the city centre.

A treat for casino lovers

1,600 visitors are expected at the casino on average every day. They will be able to try their luck on 400 gaming machines and 26 tables for roulette, blackjack or poker stretching over a floor area of 3,000 square metres. Up to 20,000 francs can be bet at the roulette wheel. The casino operator Swiss Casinos Zurich AG invested 47 million francs in the renovation of the listed building from the 1930s that used to be home to the Ober department store.

Visible monitoring

Due to legal regulations – not to mention their own security requirements – the management at Swiss Casinos Zurich installed a video surveillance system that has a lot to offer. Over 300 HD cameras ensure that the security managers can keep an eye on every square inch of the casino. The monitoring of the gaming tables is rounded off by high-quality boundary microphones.

Quick and clear

21 recording servers working under a fully automated redundancy concept and with a fully redundant gigabit network ensure maximum system availability. The images can be viewed and processed at workstations with high-quality monitors in the surveillance room. Additional video walls ensure a clear overview at all times. In addition to outstanding service, the management at Swiss Casinos Zurich also attaches great importance to ensuring gaming security – not least when it comes to the bets made by the guests. This also includes resolving any confusion at the table in a quick and uncomplicated manner. The reliable video surveillance system provides clear audio and visual material and can thus quickly detect all forms of cheating and fraud. With this project – the eighth since 2002 – Securiton AG has proven its great expertise in the casino field.
