Securiton protects the Zurich Opera House
The Zurich Opera House is one of Zurich’s landmarks and Switzerland’s largest cultural institution. Opernhaus Zürich AG, to give it its corporate name, also attaches great importance to the safety of its employees, audiences and facilities. This is why the existing Securiton fire alarm system has now been entirely overhauled and brought up-to-date.
The history of the Zurich Opera House goes back to the Actien-Theater, which opened in 1834 with Mozart’s Magic Flute. It was the city’s first theatre and was founded by theatre-loving citizens in the form of a public limited company. The company (now Opernhaus Zürich AG) still owns the institution, which celebrated its 175th anniversary in November 2009. Canton Zurich has been its main financial backer since 1995.
Putting on numerous aesthetically varied opera productions and ballet choreographies, concerts and song recitals and with a wide range of young talent, the Zurich Opera House is one of the most productive and successful opera houses in Europe. It gives audiences access to works from the early days of opera to the music of the 21st century in all its breadth and variety. 2014 saw Zurich named Opera Company of the Year at the International Opera Awards, and in 2019 the Opera House was named Best Opera House in the Oper! Awards held by the international opera industry. In addition to the commitment of top international singers and sought-after directors and choreographers, great value is placed on the training of young up-and-coming artists in the realms of singing, ballet and orchestral playing.
Securiton protection
Securiton AG has been protecting the Zurich Opera House for many years. Thanks to the excellence of the cooperation with Securiton and the effectiveness of the latter’s safety solutions, the decision to deploy the latest generation of Securiton products for the modernisation of the fire alarm system and security management system was an easy one. The aim was to replace the former SecuriPro fire alarm system and SLS Pro security management system. The Zurich Opera House was quickly impressed with the proven Securiton SecuriFire and SecuriLink UMS products. Six SecuriFire control panels provide reliable fire protection. 1200 detectors, mostly combined smoke and heat detectors with integrated sounders for fast, targeted evacuation, detect any fire in the rooms and corridors. Some of the products are coloured to match the rooms. In the large auditorium, Securiton’s SecuriSmoke aspirating smoke system ensures the immediate detection of smoke.
The SecuriLink security management system provides the opera house’s safety officers with convenient visualisation of the fire alarm system on clear digital floor plans. This helps them operate the entire fire alarm system and carry out structured alerting in an emergency.
