Every year Messe Basel hosts between 20 and 25 trade fairs, of which the most significant by far - both nationally and internationally - are Swissbau as the leading trade fair for the construction and real estate industry, Baselworld as the world watch and jewellery show, and Art Basel as the premier international art show. 6,000 to 8,000 exhibitors and around one million visitors a year rely on a multitude of security arrangements to protect them against fire, theft, and other undesirable incidents.
The security centre operated by Securitas personnel in turn relies on the tried-and-tested SecuriLink UMS universal management system from Securiton. All the doors and gates are monitored and controlled from this security centre using the largest SecuriLink UMS system anywhere in Switzerland. Thanks to multiserver operation the universal management system continuously feeds the centre with a wealth of targeted data in real time. In the event of an alarm the relevant cameras are instantly activated and all the alarms are displayed graphically in clearly legible form. The security management system is also designed to enable the remote control of all 820 doors, gates, barriers and emergency exits. Several fire alarm systems are also connected to the system, with just under 20,000 elements supplying data to the SecuriLink UMS. Securitas is THE security provider on Basel’s trade fair premises – day and night, 365 days a year. The full array of security services is used across these extensive premises: Securitas personnel manage the trade fair’s multi-storey car park, providing parking services and regulating traffic flows. Equipped with all the keys, Securitas personnel patrol the premises, opening and closing doors and gates. In the event of an emergency, the security personnel can be deployed extremely quickly to keep emergency exits clear and guide the emergency services straight to the site of the incident. At trade fairs Securitas security specialists keep a watchful eye on a multitude of stands, carrying out security checks and other assignments.
All the halls are equipped with a sprinkler system installed by the Securitas Group company Babberger Brandschutz AG, for quick and effective extinguishing. Some 36 km of pipes with a total of 14,000 sprinkler nozzles have been installed at the new trade fair centre alone. Within the shortest time possible 26 Babberger fitters on site and others in pre-production ensured a successful installation.
