Ice stadium "Bossard Arena" Zug

Switzerland's newest and most up-to-date ice stadium is in Zug. Replacing the old Herti stadium, the Bossard Arena was opened to great fanfare in August 2010. Its main function is as the home ground of the EVZ Eissportverein Zug ice hockey club.

New ice stadium, new security, new safety

The new development incorporates a customised safety and security concept for the EVZ's games. Securitas security specialists supervise the orderly access of the grounds by fans, while a Securiton fire alarm system is in place to keep the ice from melting.
The old Herti stadium was home to the EVZ from 1967 to 2010. It was pulled down in May 2010 to make way for the new Bossard Arena. Celebrations marked the opening of Switzerland's most up-to-date ice hockey venue in August 2010. The stadium can accommodate 7015 spectators – 4280 seated and 2735 standing. Alongside an administration suite, bars and restaurants, an outdoor ice rink is also under construction. Work on the latter is taking place under the watchful eye of Securitas patrols and is scheduled to be completed in time for the coming winter season. The Bossard Arena complex includes the Uptown development mix of shops, offices and residential units – at 18 storeys high, it's Zug's tallest structure.

New security regime

Securitas has proven itself a dependable partner to the EVZ for more than 30 years. At the old Herti stadium, its security specialists were responsible for overseeing admissions and for overall stewarding duties in and around the venue. With the arrival of the new Bossard Arena, the security concept was subjected to a thorough review and the duties reallocated. Securitas personnel now concentrate on the entrances and oversee the admissions process. They are also entrusted with the task of ensuring that fans do not bring in unauthorised items such as weapons and fireworks. François Stocker, the member of the EVZ board with responsibility for security, says that the new allocation of duties ensures that the Securitas personnel at the entrances are not bracketed with the EVZ's in-house stewards keeping order in the stadium itself. It means that the admissions process can continue until just before the game starts without causing too much friction. Between 17 and 23 Securitas personnel are on hand at EVZ games: between three and six act as stewards, while the remaining staff are specially trained to look out for unauthorised items and conduct body searches. Outside the hockey season, Securitas is tasked with overseeing another major event at the Bossard Arena: the Annual General Meeting of the Zug Cantonal Bank. Here, Securitas personnel perform admission checks and perform guarding, supervisory, stewarding and general security duties.

When it gets too hot …

Even ice stadiums need protection against fire. The Bossard Arena relies on a Securiton fire alarm system. Almost 500 SecuriStar MCD 573 combined smoke detectors and heat sensors have been installed for the early detection of smouldering and open fires as part of a modular SecuriPro fire alarm system. Another 52 manual call points are on hand for triggering manual alarms. With professional Securitas security services supervising the entrances and intelligent early fire detection courtesy of state-of-the-art Securiton technology, the Securitas Group is ensuring that fire never becomes an issue – and that emotions that could melt the Bossard Arena ice are not allowed to get out of hand.
