Swiss Paraplegic Centre in Nottwil

The Swiss Paraplegic Centre (SPC) in Nottwil is a special clinic focusing on holistic rehabilitation and comprehensive care for patients with spinal paralysis.

The existing control and indicating equipment at the centre has now been brought up to the latest standards in early 2014 thanks to the highly sophisticated safety solutions from the Securitas Group. The SecuriFire control and indicating equipment and attached fire detectors from Securiton are supplemented by a nitrogen extinguishing system from Contrafeu.
The SPC is a private, nationally renowned clinic for the initial care, emergency treatment, holistic rehabilitation and lifelong care of paraplegics and those with syndromes similar to spinal paralysis. The special clinic in Nottwil is the largest of its kind in Switzerland and belongs to the Swiss Paraplegic Group (SPG). The SPG makes up an integral network for the holistic rehabilitation of paraplegics – from the accident right up to their final years.

In early 2014, Securiton and Contrafeu modernised the fire detection, fire alarm and fire extinguishing systems according to the latest technical standards. Securiton completely updated the fire detection and fire alarm systems, with the existing system replaced by a redundant, modular SecuriFire fire alarm system. This is networked using high-quality SpiderNet technology and connected to a universal module support system (UMS). Incipient fires are detected in an instant by over 2000 fire detectors. In the low-voltage distribution and transformer rooms, Contrafeu was tasked with replacing the existing carbon dioxide extinguishing system with a new nitrogen extinguishing system. A total of 49 cylinders – each with a capacity of 80 litres and measuring 300 bar with constant pressure technology – were installed in five extinguishing areas. The new extinguishing system from Contrafeu was linked together with the new fire alarm system from Securiton. Immediately on detecting a fire, SecuriFire actuates the extinguishing system and thus fights the fire automatically at the sensitive location. Thanks to the close cooperation between the specialists from Securiton and Contrafeu, the SPC benefits from proven safety solutions from a single source.
