Late Afternoon Symposium 2024

Switzerland-wide Securiton Late Afternoon Symposia

20.12.2023

What do Securiton AG, top-level sport and the motto of the Late Afternoon Symposia “Yesterday – Today – Tomorrow” have in common? On the occasion of the company’s 75th anniversary, Securiton explored this question with customers and partners at five venues in Switzerland.

Companies, public figures and each and every one of us all have a history, and thus a yesterday, a today and a tomorrow. Inspired by its own 75th anniversary, Securiton AG hosted five Late Afternoon Symposia throughout Switzerland in autumn 2023. Martin Altorfer, CEO, opened the afternoons with a journey back in time into Securiton’s company history. He went into the origins of the company and summed up 75 years of commitment and partnership in a captivating way. He concluded by providing an outlook on current issues and trends in security technology.

Aha moments of product and technology development
What would security engineering be without product and technology development? Various experts in the respective language regions showed just how much passion and innovative strength Securiton has demonstrated over the last eight decades. Head of Section Beat Salzmann provided aha-moments for many of those present in Dübendorf and Solothurn. Michel Bettera, Group Leader Project Management, guided the technical part in Lugano confidently, while Loris Strangis, senior specialist in the areas of access control, video security and intercom, showed, in Geneva, just how exciting technology can be. In Lausanne, Marc Neuenschwander, Regional Manager, and Markus Reinhart, Head of Sales, impressed in a double presentation. After a short break, the afternoons continued with a sporting theme. Securiton was able to attract a top athlete from each language region.

Mastering multiple disciplines: Nicola Spirig
In September, Olympic champion Nicola Spirig offered insights into her personal “Yesterday – Today – Tomorrow” in Dübendorf and Solothurn. The triathlete talked about her sporting origins, how she made it to the top of the triathlon world and what she has been doing since retiring from her sporting career. Besides successes, her trajectory also included setbacks and injuries. Nicola Spirig emphasised the role that goals, motivation, the right team and trusting partnerships played for her as an individual athlete.

Going the right way: Elena Roos
At the end of September, orienteering competitor Elena Roos delighted Securiton’s guests in Lugano. In late summer temperatures, the world and European champion shared her personal story, which began in her youth with enthusiasm for orienteering. When she prepared for competitions, Roos suggested that the shortest route is not necessarily the fastest, and that mental training is essential to be successful in elite sport. Shortly before the Late Afternoon Symposium, Elena Roos announced her retirement from professional sport.

Overcoming hurdles: Lea Sprunger
In October and November, European champion Lea Sprunger inspired her audiences in Geneva and Lausanne respectively. As a versatile athlete, Sprunger showed that a broad portfolio was a good basis for fighting her way to the top in a challenging discipline, such as the 400 m hurdles. She also stressed the need for reliable partners and well-established teams before sharing with those present what has changed since her retirement from professional sport.

Conclusion and congratulations
In all, Securiton welcomed more than 300 guests to the five events. Presenters Janine Geigele, Julie Arlin and Isabelle Musy, who led the afternoon events, interviewed the attendees and the athletes during the aperitifs that followed. Lively conversations bridged the gap between everyday business life and top-class sport, revealed sporting talents and ambitions, and raised eyebrows at one or two details from Securiton's company history.
